It has been a busy couple of days this week with the start of Year 2 for Bella at school, Liam had registration day for "proper" soccer (hello early morning winter starts on weekends.. ick) and finally today, he started kindergarten. How did THAT happen?!?
Dean had a work from home day so he could see Liam off to school and my parents came to see him climb those big stairs for his first time, but of course he took it all in his stride. It is so different being the 2nd child, he's been going to "school" for 2 full years to drop Bella off and pick her up, he knows where everything is, has met the Kindy teacher many times before, knows how car line works... there is no shyness for the 2nd child. Well not for my boy anyway.
... and apparently not my baby either... poser.

Happy Australia Day
The weather outside today might be blowing a gale and pouring rain all day but Australia Day was spent in the sun. Riding bikes, eating ice blocks and catching up with friends.
We also made a trip to Ikea Saturday morning for some bits and pieces including some chalk for the kids to test out our new chalkboard.... the back of our new pantry no longer bare but a place for the kids to draw and for shopping lists to go.

Merryville mat
Stash busting for a present for a new little one coming to Dean's workmate
Some Michael Miller Merryville print on one side and navy and white small polka dots for the back with quilt batting in between. I hand stitched a running stitch in quilting cotton around the edge to keep everything in place.
A simple playmate for the new little boy arriving today.

Apple skirt
Some of the last of this pretty little navy blue apple fabric (from Spotlight) sewed into a self-drafted skirt pattern for Bella.
Simple waistband and a zippered side for my long-legged, small-waisted girl who is near impossible to get a good fitting skirt ready made.

Round in circles duvet cover ... the beginning
A self-drafted dresden piece...
and a nice pile of Saffron Craig fabric purchased a couple of years ago cut into some strips...
made into a rather large dresden circle, the start of a duvet cover for hubby and my bed. Plans are for a plain background, probably off-white and the circle as the centre.

Red washi
My blogging is not as often as I like, and my sewing even further in between, but finally some time spent in front of the sewing machine over the last couple of days and time for show and tell.
The two biggest had a sleepover at their Nanny and Poppy's which meant that Eva and I had the WHOLE day to ourselves. Little miss requested Peppa Pig and I was more than happy to oblige while I disappeared for some sewing time, starting with a Washi dress ... a popular dress for very good reasons.
my only modification was to omit the shirring in the back and sew a casing made from bias binding to the inside of the back and insert elastic instead.
I will be making more of these, the tunic version and the maxi version too. Lucky I went and re-stocked fabric at Spotlight the other day.

One week
It's been a week of firsts and fun... moving into our new house, Eva's first day at daycare and going to the Moonlight cinemas in Centennial Park.
and today, while the kids were on their new see saw they got for Christmas for the 1,000 time, I started on my first project around the house... transforming the back of our new pantry.... wait and see.

Merry Christmas everyone. 2013 is shaping up already to be exciting, we are only 2 sleeps away from our big move into our new house. It's brand new so there are a few things I still need to organise to be done like picking which curtains/blinds we want, but it's very exciting. Except being surrounded by boxes... thats not so exciting, but it's not for much longer. Hopefully I can get the sewing room box unpacked quickly and get back into some crafting...
